One step closer...

We have a well....:yippee:

It was a little nerve wracking as we had a very set amount we could spend....and the well was getting close to the limit.

We had 5gpm at 300' and the driller said that would be okay for one house but not much else....I said a prayer and made a decision to go for another 50' and we now have a well producing 15gpm...

One more thing done....also looking to have the septic finished soon.

All that will leave is getting the interior semi finished and we will have our place ready to live in.

Unless you have posted before, tell us a little about your place... I am guessing you have some acreage?

Good luck!

Tell ya something about well drillers and "GPM"....they have NO clue what the output of a well is most of the time. They simply pull a number out of the air based on a semi educated guess on what they see blowing out the hole unless they actually PUT A PUMP on it and measure it.....which I've never seen one do.

Couple of the wells I've had drilled they said 30gpm on one and 25 on another. Both of them can be sucked dry with a 5-8gpm pump.

The BEST they can tell you "a little bit of water" or a "fair amount of water".....their GPM numbers are pure fiction from what I've seen.

I have posted here I believe.

We have 17 acres of land in WNC,bought it with nothing but a driveway roughed in and power at the property line.

We have had the driveway finished, power run onto the property and have built a 'barn' that will be our house in the near future.

It is a 30'x36' loft barn with shed roofs off both sides, frame built not a pole building. We will have around 1320 square feet of living space when done with the remainder being....whatever.

Our goal is to eventually be as self sufficient as possible in the production of food and to not participate if at all possible in society...

The land has several streams on it and borders at one end a large creek. It is home to deer and turkey and has no neighbors.

This guy has been doing it for 30+ years up there,he seems to be well known and respected as far as getting the job done.

But you never know,we are just glad to have water,it beats carting 5 gallon jerry cans back and forth....

Excellent, thank you for the details! The above highlighted reflects our desires as well.

Good luck to you sir.

BTW: The current price we get for an installed well (includes submersed deep well pump and pressure tank) sinking a 4'' galvanized metal casing about 100' to 150' is about $2750 in total.

My wife is very into growing our own food,it has been a goal for a few years now and circumstances are just pushing it ahead faster....

We are paying $9/foot for the well to be drilled.
It also has to have casing for 35-45 feet at $5/foot and 'grouted' for another $250....as well as a well permit of $250...

Seems the local government wants their cut.

Oz, you made the right choice to go deeper..

Have you consider putting a hand pump unit on top of the well? That way if electricity goes out you can hand pump. I don't have on yet but out pump is really old and when it goes I am planning on the hand pump unit on the new pump.

I would like to have some solar power set up to power the well one day...

Of course we have a long long list of things we want and need...
